NISformance 2nd/3rd Gen VQ35DE Swap Kit Version 2



This kit allows installation of a 2nd/3rd gen VQ35DE engine into a 2002-2008 Maxima or 2002-2006 Altima (3.5 V6).

The kit consist of five main components. The
Cam sensor signal inverters, PNP throttle body adapter harness, Belt tensioner bracket, and Alternator bracket. Each component and its intended use is detailed below.

  • Camshaft sensor signal inverter. This is the most essential part of the swap kit. Each inverter has a camshaft sensor plug pre installed. One inverter is required for each bank.The only wiring necessary are three wires consisting of ground, power, and signal.
  • Plug and play throttle body harness. This is necessary in order to utilize the 70 or 75 millimeter throttle bodies that are equipped on 2nd gen and 3rd gen engines.
  • Belt tensioner and alternator brackets. They allow you to re use the factory alternator and belt tensioner, plus they are Zinc coated for high corrosion resistance and improved "oem like" look and feel.

Nissan VQ35DE (FWD)

There are now three generations of the front wheel drive, Nissan VQ35DE engine. The first generation engine came in the 2002-2008 Maxima , as well as 2002-2006 3.5L Altima. The second gen engine came in the 2009+ Maxima , 2007+ 3.5L Altima. Finally the third gen engine currently comes in the 8th Gen Maxima, as well as the 5th gen Altima.
The second generation and third generation VQ35DE is equipped with an improved head and manifold design allowing for increased air flow and improved performance. Oil consumption and other flaws commonly found in first generation motors have also been eliminated.

There are two variations of the second generation VQ35DE. A Maxima motor is equipped with "EVT" ( Exhaust Valve Timing ) and has slightly higher compression when compared to an Altima motor, which is not equipped with "EVT". In most swap applications that use a Maxima motor "EVT" is not used. In order to use "EVT" a different engine management system is necessary. However "EVT" is not necessary and does not negatively affect performance or reliability if left unused.


Kit includes:

  • Two cam sensor signal inverters
  • PNP throttle body adapter harness
  • Belt tensioner bracket Alternator bracket

We have added an option for those utilizing a 2016+ Throttle body. This newer TB requires different wiring of our TB adapter in order to work properly. Please select the appropriate option.

this kit made the install and fitment easy.  I needed 3 M10 washers on the front portion of the lower alternator mount so the belt would line up properly. I used a 2014 Maxima engine.
